CAREERS IN EDUCATION

Students who enjoy school, are active in school and community groups, have strong
academic and study skills and enjoy working with people should consider taking this
project-based elective course. There is a high demand for talented teachers in
Alabama classrooms: as corporate trainers; and as school counselors, coaches, and
administrators. This course will help students prepare for choosing a solid career path
in education and be better focused on their career ambitions.

CAREERS IN EDUCATION-Semester 1 FEE: NONE

Pre-requisites: (Grades 10-12)

Students who enjoy learning and sharing what they learn have promising careers as
educators. This one-credit course is designed for students who are interested in
pursuing careers in education. Course content includes the teaching and learning
process, analyzing learning styles and teaching methods, teaching techniques, effective
communication skills, and characteristics of effective teachers. Education activities
include learning to use technology as a tool for teaching, observing educational
environments, and preparing educational materials. Students will gain valuable insight
as they learn to evaluate processes and resources with the greatest impact on teaching

CAREERS IN EDUCATION-Semester 2 FEE: NONE

Pre-requisites: Careers in Education Semester 1 (Grades 10-12)

Students have more opportunities to explore their options for the various careers in
education. This course provides extended learning opportunities such as participation
in student organizations, co-curricular activities, job shadowing, and community

Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) offers students the
opportunity to expand their leadership potential and develop skills for life, such as
planning, goal setting, problem solving, decision making, and interpersonal
communication.
